Jan and Ilse formed their vocals, guitar/cello duo in 1991. Following a successful appearance at a festival in Tübingen they began touring Germany extensively. Famous for their warm hearted humour and unique cello/guitar combination they developed an ever growing and loyal cult fan base within the women's and lesbian community within Germany.

Between 1991 and 1998 Jan & Ilse performed over 500 concerts and sold over 10,000 copies of their four albums. All their tours and recordings were produced without music industry backing.

In 1998 Ilse de Ziah left the duo to pursue her own direction in music. In 1999 Jan Allain toured Germany with a new all female backing band featuring Deirdre Cartwright on electric guitar.

2000 sees the debut release by Cooking Vinyl Germany of Jan's new album 'A Kind of Glory', A 'best of' album featuring five new tracks. A new album of all new songs will be recorded in December 2001. For release in spring 2002.
