She sings her songs with 'Overwhelming freshness and Power 'and then again 'With stunning sensitivity', and is especially unique when performing her owns songs with 'her charming voice'. What do all these observations carry in common? They describe the London singer/songwriter Jan Allain who now chooses to live in Münster. This Saturday she will introduce a collection of her songs from her repertoire at the Standfest 2000 starting at 15.15h on the main stage in front of the Stadthaus. A collection of songs from her new CD 'A Kind of Glory' (Cooking Vinyl Germany) releasde in June 2000. Listening to this material one can only agree with the statements above. This 'Selection of songs 1991-2000' whether with full band or only a few instruments, it contains previously unreleased songs from her earlier albums. Among them those she recorded with Ilse de Ziah on cello. The 1999 single 'On my Radio' and some new titles. Admiring liner notes by Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet) complete this collection. For many years Jan Allain has been moving within the musical traditions of artists like Joni Mitchell and Joan Armatrading. She also sights John Lennon and Burt Bacharach as personal favourites. During her extensive tours through the club scene in Germany she sold 12,000 albums 'by the way'. Back in 1982 she exposed her musical talent at New York's 'Folk City Songwriters Night' beating Susanne Vega. Back in London Allain decided to release some songs on a demo tape which 'sold like hot cakes' at the women's events. Meanwhile her CD's are now even more in demand. Another mainstream concert is planned for Jan Allain in her autumn tour in Münster.
